About Me
My name is Hrvoje Butina. I’m currently employed as a Verification Engineer at Ericsson, working on the latest Radio Base Station ASIC. I’m also a consultant at the University of Zagreb, Faculty of Electrical Engineering and Computing, where I assist in the verification of arithmetic units typically found in modern CPUs.
Why This Blog?
Where did I get the idea for my blog?
One day, in a sudden burst of creative ideas (you know, those ones you usually get at 2am), I decided it would be insanely fun and cool to design my own RISC-V CPU. I mean, the instruction set is well defined, there’s a ton of literature and already finished cores available online… Why not? It would also be a good opportunity to improve my (lacking) digital design skills.
I didn’t want to start working on this immediately, in case it was only a whim, so I waited a couple of days. Nope—it wasn’t a whim! Instead, I got even more ideas and more things that I wanted to do :-)
And you know what would also be cool? To document my journey!
Inspiration
One of the initial seeds of motivation for documenting my projects came from my friend Jan Kelemen. He’s a very good programmer, and he regularly posts about his side projects on his own blog. I love reading his posts.
The idea I got from him was that maybe I could do something similar—and maybe one day my blog posts would motivate and launch someone else on the path of this creative endeavor.
And here we are :-)
